Vice Foreign Minister asked Obama to meet with Dalai to make solemn representations to the United States

On the evening of February 21, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui urgently summoned Condado, the temporary representative of the US Embassy in China, and insisted on meeting the Dalai Lama’s solemn objection to the United States in disregard of China’s strong opposition.

Zhang Yesui said that the wrong behavior of the US side has seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs, seriously violating the US’s commitment not to support “Tibet independence”, seriously violating the basic norms of international relations and seriously damaging Sino-US relations. The Chinese side expressed strong indignation and resolute opposition.

Zhang Yesui said that Tibet is a sacred and inseparable part of Chinese territory. Tibet affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and the US has no right to interfere. The contradiction between China and Dalai is not a national issue, not a religious issue, nor a human rights issue, but a major issue of principle for safeguarding the motherland’s reunification and opposing separatism. China resolutely opposes any foreign country allowing Dalai to go to Suwa, and resolutely opposes any country’s political leaders to meet Dalai in any form. No one can shake the will and determination of the Chinese government and people to oppose foreign interference and defend national sovereignty and unity.

Zhang Yesui said that the US side acknowledged that Tibet is part of China and does not support Tibet independence. On the one hand, it also arranged for the leaders to meet with the Dalai Lama, the head of the separatist group. The US insists on doing so, which will seriously damage Sino-US cooperation and bilateral relations, and will also harm the interests of the United States.

Zhang Yesui said that respecting each other’s core interests and major concerns is the key to ensuring the healthy and stable development of Sino-US relations. We strongly urge the US to take seriously China’s solemn stance and abide by its commitment to recognize Tibet as part of China and oppose Tibet’s independence. Immediately take practical actions to eliminate the bad influence, stop using the Tibet issue to interfere in China’s internal affairs, and stop condoning and supporting Dalai. The group’s anti-China separatist activities. The US must win the trust of the Chinese government and the Chinese people with practical actions.
