On February 23, 2014, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Maliki said that Iran and China are long-term friendly and thanked China for always supporting and helping Iraq to rebuild. In recent years, the cooperation between the two countries has achieved remarkable results, and China has become Iraq’s largest trading partner. The Iranian side has a strong desire to expand cooperation with China. Greece and China are strengthening cooperation not only in the economy but also in politics and security. The Iranian side has confidence in Chinese companies and welcomes more Chinese companies to increase their investment in Iraq in a wider area.
Wang Yi said that China is a sincere friend of Iraq and is pleased that the political and economic reconstruction process in Iraq has achieved positive results. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Iraq, firmly supports Iraq in safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, firmly supports Iraq in accelerating political reconstruction and national reconciliation, and firmly supports Iraq in its fight against terrorism. China is willing to strengthen all-round cooperation with Iran, and on the basis of inheriting the traditional friendship between the two peoples, continuously enhance political mutual trust, give full play to the high complementarity of the two economies, and promote the continued and in-depth development of China-Iran relations.
